Something very crazy and exciting happened last Tuesday evening: we were invited to attend the EDC Experience movie premiere in Hollywood as well as the after-party at Supperclub in LA from Kaskade himself!!  The movie was incredible, with cameos by huge names such as Swedish House Mafia (Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello & Axwell), David Guetta, MSTRKRFT, Will.i.Am, Steve Aoki, 12th Planet, Moby, Major Lazer, Afrojack, Atrak, Benny Benassi, Travis Barker, Deadmau5 and of course Kaskade, as well as a heartfelt tribute to DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) who was unfortunately taken way too early from us.  The incredible documentary was directed by Kevin Kerslake (who has directed such music videos as “Fallen,” Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, & Rise Against) and not only captured the love of music from everyone involved, but also the behind-the-scenes insight to every aspect that brings the entire production to life.  The crew followed a few of the artists, crew, and dancers into their homes, workplace, and performance preparation.

Unfortunately, none of that made the news, headlines or blogs.  The “riots” that occurred outside of the Chinese Gromin’s Theater in Hollywood due to Kaskade announcing that he was going to play a block party before the movie premiere.  This announcement caused riots, riot police and tons of madness which eventually caused most of the people invited to the premiere not to be able to get in, including the owner & CEO of Insomniac, Pasquale Rotella.  We are extremely fortunate to have been able to not only to be invited, but also to actually make it in to the premiere around the riot police and insanity!

Be sure to check out your local showing of the EDC Experience on August 4th.  Trust me, it’s worth it.

Calvin Harris is releasing his newest track, Awooga Monday and it is massive! It’s a little different from his last few singles like Flashback and You Used To Hold Me. This is a straight-up club banger destined for summer nights in Ibiza.

For those wondering where Awooga came from, the origins lie in an old sci-fi series by the name of Red Dwarf and was picked up by Kriss Akabusi and notably John Fashnu on his stint as Gladiators presenter here in Britain, which placed into the mainstream during the 90s. [via Urban Dictionary]

Keeping with the 90s theme is the actual song, which definitely has some inspiration from the 90s house/rave scene. Let us know if you’re liking the new direction from Calvin Harris

Friday night was truly a night to remember.  Any of those who didn’t make the smart decision to come out to Control at Avalon in Hollywood surly regretted it.  Not only were there continuously dirty house beats courtesy of DirtyRock, Steve Prior, Deth Hertz and Will Bailey, but the night got bananas with the headliners Tommy Lee & DJ Aero, and Mr. Oizo. Big ups to Will Bailey who kept the crowd on their feet with banger after electro banger before handing it over to Tommy Lee & Aero.

This weekly event is put on by White Lite Productions (who represent artists such as DJs Mr. White), Giant, BBE & Gotta Dance Dirty and has sold out every week for months now, and is obviously an event NEVER to be missed.

The first epic surprise of the night came when Tommy Lee & DJ Aero played You Need a Ladder and immediately introduced Tommy Lee’s rockstar girlfriend Sofi who got on the mic and rocked the crowd with Sofi Needs a Ladder.

The second amazing guest appearance was a white-sheet-gho5t who revealed himself to be none other than Deadmau5 who mixed in his track ‘Ghosts ‘n Stuff’ while the crowd went absolutely bonkers! Personal favorite moment was Joel and Sofi throwing out some old school dance moves together before the surprise was revealed.

While all of the Mau5trap crew’s respective Twitter’s showed they were all in Los Angeles, we couldn’t have predicted the magnitude of this epic performance.  Sofi truly is a rockstar–I couldn’t have been more impressed with her performance while she took over the entire crowd with her dancing and electric voice! I don’t think anyone in their right minds will miss another Control after last weeks. A night to remember indeed…

There is nothing better than what I like to call “Bubble Pop Electro”, commonly used by producers such as Bingo Players, Major Lazer, Dada Life, Boys Noize etc.  The bubbly beats never fail as a pick-me-up for us, hope it’ll do the same for you!

Here are my favorites:
Get Up (Diplo Remix) – Bingo Players
Unleash the Fucking Dada- Dada Life
Brazillian (Original Mix) – Gramophonedzie
Memories (Bingo Players Remix) – David Guetta
Hello (Dada Life Remix) – Martin Solveig and Dragonette
Ready for the Weekend – Calvin Harris
Clap Your Hands (Diplo Remix) – Sia
