Something very crazy and exciting happened last Tuesday evening: we were invited to attend the EDC Experience movie premiere in Hollywood as well as the after-party at Supperclub in LA from Kaskade himself!!  The movie was incredible, with cameos by huge names such as Swedish House Mafia (Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello & Axwell), David Guetta, MSTRKRFT, Will.i.Am, Steve Aoki, 12th Planet, Moby, Major Lazer, Afrojack, Atrak, Benny Benassi, Travis Barker, Deadmau5 and of course Kaskade, as well as a heartfelt tribute to DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) who was unfortunately taken way too early from us.  The incredible documentary was directed by Kevin Kerslake (who has directed such music videos as “Fallen,” Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, & Rise Against) and not only captured the love of music from everyone involved, but also the behind-the-scenes insight to every aspect that brings the entire production to life.  The crew followed a few of the artists, crew, and dancers into their homes, workplace, and performance preparation.

Unfortunately, none of that made the news, headlines or blogs.  The “riots” that occurred outside of the Chinese Gromin’s Theater in Hollywood due to Kaskade announcing that he was going to play a block party before the movie premiere.  This announcement caused riots, riot police and tons of madness which eventually caused most of the people invited to the premiere not to be able to get in, including the owner & CEO of Insomniac, Pasquale Rotella.  We are extremely fortunate to have been able to not only to be invited, but also to actually make it in to the premiere around the riot police and insanity!

Be sure to check out your local showing of the EDC Experience on August 4th.  Trust me, it’s worth it.

The former Electric Daisy Carnival  Los Angeles has been moved to Las Vegas and is making the now out-of-control festival a possible Miami style 3-day weekend event.  Festival-goers will have 3 days of raving from 8 PM to sunrise as well as a multitude of pool parties at every Vegas pool with special appearances by many of the DJ’s playing at the festival.  Our guess is that this event will soon become a mini-Miami during WMC/Ultra, but only time will tell.  Here are some of the events outside of EDC, so start planning accordingly!

THURSDAY

  • Wynn – Tryst Night Club // Dada Life
  • Venitian – Tao Nightclub // ATB

If anyone is still looking for transportation from Southern California area/San Diego to Las Vegas be sure to book a ticket on the first ever private plane with a DJ spinning live on board at Envy Thys.  A few packages for the private plane and charter buses still available at a discounted rate on their website.  Party responsibly.

Here are a few tunes for you this week in preparation for the crazy upcoming long weekend in Vegas for EDC!  We’ve thrown in a wide variety of tracks to satisfy all the EDM lovers.  The Benjamin Bates bootleg is a big favorite of Fedde le Grand which he dropped at Ultra this year in Miami as well as many of his other shows during his USA tour.  Another new track by Avicci is so pretty and melodic, we can’t wait for the full version to be released.  Mord Fustang, who is still the mystery artist in the industry, continues to release the most incredible tracks and remixes, literally every one is incredible.  Who is Mord Fustang?! Can’t get enough of eery vocals alongside beautiful melodies.

We felt as if we were at Miami Music Week resulting from the magnitude and talent at this show. Van Toth, Deth Hertz & Sandro Silva opened for Funkagenda, Chris Lake & Laidback Luke. What a spectacular Memorial Day weekend it was! Funkagenda surprised the crowd with some pop song samples and the incredible Chris Lake blew them away! The biggest track we heard him drop was a remix of Lady Gaga‘s ‘Edge of Glory’ which, rumor has it, is going to be released alongside the release of the single. Since the Beatport beach party in Miami, more specifically when Chris Lake threw down incredibly hard, we could never forget his ability to get the energy through the roof. Yet again, with an amazing set filled with a few tracks we had never heard before, we were blown away. It was a non stop barrage of Chris Lake remixes that got the packed crowd dancing & sweating up a storm. Peaking the moment was Laidback Luke coming onto stage. Near the end of his set was like a firework show finale including System of a Down and his own Sundown remixes.  The energy from the crowd was incredible. We have never seen that many people that were just there because of their love for the music, dancing their hearts away with not a care in the world. Nights like these are why we love the music and the EDM world growing relentlessly here in San Diego.

Turbulence (Sidney Samson remix) – Steve Aoki, Laidback Luke ft. Lil’ Jon
Mortal Comeback – Laidback Luke
Sleepwalker – Chris Lake
Secrets in the Dark – Chris Lake
Splinter – Funkagenda
Black Chrome (Vandal remix) Deth Hertz Edit – Circuit Freq

This could have been a big rant about all the stolen beats, lyrics, tracks etc etc from artists and giving no credit where it is due, but I think we may just want to let you see it for yourself.  With the newest release of Beyonce’s “Run the World (Girls)”, this “sampling” B.S. is getting on our last nerves. This year alone we have sat back and listened while Beyonce, Lady Gaga, J. Lo, & Katy Perry have completely stolen EDM tracks from artists and put their terrible lyrics over it, labeled it as their own, and gave no credit to the actual producers of the tracks.  While we can appreciate collaborations alongside producers such as Afrojack & David Guetta, stealing is in a whole other ballgame.  And we’re not the only ones who agree—check out Perez Hilton’s post and Calvin Harris’ tweet following the release of Chris Brown’s ripoff song.

Will.I.Am – Dance vs. Boys Noize – Yeah (Original)
Lady Gaga – Judas vs. Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso – Buy Now – For Sale (remix)  [at 4:30 is a straight rip]
Beyonce – Run the World (Girls) vs. Major Lazer – Pon de Floor
Chris Brown – Yeah 3x vs. Calvin Harris – I’m Not Alone [at 0:44]
Britney Spears – Hold It Against Me vs. Bellamy Brothers – If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body
Katy Perry – E.T. (ft. Kanye West) vs. Streetz and Young Deuces – Peter Pan

We’d love to hear your opinion on this and whether or not this is stealing or rather just many collaborations/samplings going on.
